Barriers detailed to pass inspection, not just to look right
Balustrades are the piece of metalwork most likely to be picked up at final inspection. Height, gap, loading and fixing all have to be right, and the fixing is usually the one that gets missed. We detail the substrate connection at quote stage.

What balustrades & handrails covers
Compliant barrier detailing
Heights, gaps and infill set out against the barrier provisions in the National Construction Code and the loading requirements in AS 1170.1, using the design criteria nominated in your documentation.
Steel and stainless balustrades
Flat bar, tube, rod and vertical baluster systems in mild steel or grade 316 stainless, including blackened and clear-coated finishes for exposed interior stairs.
Structural glass systems
Channel-set and point-fixed toughened laminated glass balustrades, supplied with the interlayer and thickness required by the nominated design loading.
Handrails and grab rails
Continuous stair and ramp handrails, including the graspable profiles and extensions required where accessibility provisions apply.

Our stair was already built and it was not perfectly true. Northline templated the whole thing rather than working off the drawings, and absorbed the variation at the landings. Standing at the bottom you would never know.

How we work
How a job runs
The same six stages apply whether we are fabricating a single item or a staged commercial package.

Enquiry and scope
Send drawings, sketches or photographs through the quote form. We confirm what is included, flag anything that looks unresolved, and tell you what else we need.

Site measure or drawing review
For residential and retrofit work we measure on site. For new commercial builds we work from the architectural and structural documentation and raise RFIs where the detail is unclear.

Fixed quote and program
You receive a written quote with inclusions, exclusions, finish specification, lead time and installation requirements. Nothing is priced as a provisional sum unless we say so.

Shop drawings and approval
We issue shop drawings for approval. Fabrication does not start until they are signed off, which protects both of us from expensive rework.

Fabrication and finishing
Cutting, forming, welding and assembly happen in the Campbellfield workshop. Galvanising and powder coating are booked in as part of the program, not as an afterthought.
06
Installation and handover
Our crews deliver and install, make good, and hand over the documentation package. Any defect items are listed and closed out before we invoice the final claim.

Questions we get asked before quoting
We detail balustrades and barriers against the height, gap and loading requirements set out in the National Construction Code and AS 1170.1, using the design criteria nominated in your project documentation.
The part that most often causes a failed inspection is not the balustrade itself but the fixing into the substrate, so we confirm what we are fixing into at quote stage. Where a building surveyor requires certification of the barrier, we will tell you what needs to be provided and by whom before the work starts.
