A structural goalpost and slim-profile shopfront framing inserted into a heritage-listed facade, with every member sized to sit within the existing masonry reveal.
A heritage retail conversion required the existing shopfront opening to be widened and reglazed while retaining the listed masonry facade above. The heritage approval prohibited any new steel being visible from the street, so the transfer structure had to sit entirely within the existing 190 millimetre reveal, and the masonry had to be supported through the whole operation.
We surveyed the facade with the architect and heritage consultant, then detailed a goalpost from a fabricated plated section rather than a standard universal beam, because no rolled section met both the span and the depth constraint. The needle and prop sequence was fabricated as part of the package so the temporary works and the permanent steel used the same setout points. Installation ran over a weekend with the footpath under a hoarding.
The transfer structure sits entirely within the original reveal and is not visible from the street. The masonry was monitored throughout and recorded no measurable movement. Heritage sign-off was obtained without a variation to the approved drawings.
